There are two grammatical genders: male and female.
The following is a rule (but there are many exceptions from this rule):
- a noun ending with ה or ת is feminine;
- the rest of the nouns are masculine;
Names of cities and countries are feminine.
Some examples of nouns
עוף - a bird (masculine).
מיץ - squeezing, pressing, wringing (masculine), an abstract concept.
יבשה - dry ground (ends with ה and is feminine, as usual for words with this last letter).
ארץ - country, earth (female despite does not end with ה or ת); with definite article (see below) means "Earth".
עדן - Eden (feminine as any geographical name).
