Translation of Genesis 7:11
In year 600 of years of the life of Noah, in 17th day of the month, in this day all springs of the great deep broke up and the window of the sky was opened.

Note that the life on the Earth was attacked from two distinct sources: "the great deep" (an underground store of water) and "the window of the sky" (something with the atmosphere).
