The serpent said to the woman: (You) don't die to the death.

(It's) because God knows that in the day you eat from it, your eyes will be opened and you will be like God knowing good and bad.

From Rev 12:9 it is clear that the "snake" was an avatar of Devil.
 
"The serpent was crafty than anything alive of the field which God Yahweh has done" may probably mean that this "snake" was the most clever animal in the entire cosmos not just on the Earth.
